How to Find Winning Products on eBay Using ZIK Analytics

Arbaz (Dr. AdSense) May 31, 2026 7 min read

Why Product Research is Everything

90% of eBay dropshipping failures come from poor product selection. You can have perfect listings, excellent customer service, and smart pricing — but if nobody wants the product, you will not make sales. Product research is the foundation of a profitable eBay business.

What is ZIK Analytics?

ZIK Analytics is the most powerful eBay product research tool available. It shows you:
- How many times a product has sold in the last 30 days - The average selling price and profit margin - Number of active sellers competing - Sell-through rate (percentage of listings that result in a sale) - Trending products in specific categories

My 5-Step Product Research Process

Step 1: Category Scanning

Start by scanning broad categories in ZIK's category scanner. I look for categories with:
- Total sales > 500 in 30 days - Average price > $15 (low-ticket items have thin margins) - Sell-through rate > 60%
Good starting categories: Home & Garden, Auto Parts, Tools, Baby.

Step 2: Competitor Analysis

Find a seller doing $5,000–$15,000/month on eBay. Use ZIK's seller analysis to see their top-selling products. This reverse engineering approach shows you proven winners that are already making money.

Step 3: Supplier Verification

For each potential product, verify you can source it profitably:
- Search the product on AliExpress, Amazon, and wholesale suppliers - Calculate: Selling price − (supplier cost + eBay fees + shipping) = profit - Target minimum 20% profit margin, ideally 30–40%
eBay fees are roughly 13–15% of the total transaction. Factor this carefully.

Step 4: Listing Quality Check

Look at the current eBay listings for your product:
- Are competitors using professional photos? - Are titles optimized with relevant keywords? - Do descriptions answer buyer questions?
If most competitors have poor listings, you can win with a better-quality listing even without the lowest price.

Step 5: Test Before Scaling

List 3–5 products initially. Wait 14–21 days to see which ones get views, watchers, and sales. Only scale the products that show organic traction. This testing phase saves you from wasting money on losing products.

Using Terapeak for Deeper Research

Terapeak is eBay's own research tool (free with eBay subscription). It shows:
- Historical sales data for specific keywords - Seasonal trends (crucial for holiday planning) - Average sold prices over 12 months - Top sellers in any niche
Combine ZIK (for supplier research and sell-through rates) with Terapeak (for historical trends) to get a complete picture.

Red Flags to Avoid

**Skip products that have:**
- More than 50 active sellers with many recent sales (too saturated) - Sell-through rate below 40% (market is weak) - Brand name in the listing (legal issues with counterfeit claims) - Fragile items that require special shipping - Products under $10 (margins are too thin after fees)

My Top Performing Product Types

Without giving away my specific products (to avoid oversaturation), the characteristics of my best sellers are:
- Niche household items with a specific function - Prices between $18–65 on eBay - AliExpress source cost below $8 - Less than 30 active competitors on eBay - Consistent 70%+ sell-through rate
